For our music video my chosen artist was Arctic Monkeys and this is because personally my main genre of music that I listen to is rock, and Arctic Monkeys are Indie-Rock and I like this as indie is not really heavy but very mellow. What brought us to the point where we decided this was our chosen artist was going along the theme of drugs because we wanted to create a slow song with special effects in it with the use of drugs to portray the effects created. Their new song from their latest album ‘Why’d you only call me when you’re high’ was a good song because I thought it portrayed drugs very well with its use of big effects on the video and the actions that took place were very good also showing how he was high. The reason I thought it was important we changed the song was that the length of the song was only 2:42 and this was too short for us to get across what we wanted in our music video. So we wanted to take the aspect of love from this song and use it in their first song of the new album ‘Do I Wanna Know’ is a perfect example as it has the whole aspect of love in it and it is much slower and mellow as we want it to be.
Arctic Monkeys are an English indie rock band formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, lead/rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (rhythm/lead guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals). Former member Andy Nicholson (bass guitar, backing vocals) left the band in 2006 shortly after their debut album was released. The band have released five studio albums: Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006), Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009), Suck It and See (2011) and AM (2013), as well as one live album At the Apollo (2008).
The band's debut album became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Elastica's self-titled album and remains the fastest-selling debut album by a group in the UK. The band have won five Brit Awards—winning Best British Group twice, and have twice been nominated for Grammy Awards. Arctic Monkeys were heralded as one of the first group of acts to come to the public attention via the Internet (fan-based sites rather than from the band), with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed. The band are also regarded as one of the most prominent bands to be part of the post-punk revival in the UK, after achieving commercial success and spawning two number one singles with their debut album.
In 2005, Arctic Monkeys eventually signed to Domino Records, having resisted the temptation to sign to a controlling major label. They also reportedly signed a £1 million publishing deal and a £725,000 deal with Epic to cover the United States. The band's first single with Domino was 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dance floor'. Released in October 2005, the single went straight to number one in the UK charts, ahead of Robbie Williams and the Sugababes. Second single, 'When The Sun Goes Down', experienced the same chart success and Arctic Monkeys also appeared on their first NME cover.
Arctic Monkey's debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was released at the end of January 2006 and became the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history. The next week, the album was released in the US and sold 34,000 copies in the first week and debuted at 24 on the US album chart. At the NME Awards that year, Arctic Monkeys won three fan-voted awards, for Best New Band, Best British Band and Best Track.
